Our achievement is shaped by the strength of the foundation we set in partnership with our coffee out growers located in the villages of Hambella Wamena district in West Guji Zone Buku Sayisa, Sike Bokosa, Buku Abel, Tritira Goyo, Haro Sorsa, Danse Sayisa, Goro Badesa & Banti Nenka. Our coffee processing and preparation staffs are working in Buku Sayisa Coffee’s specialty coffee drying station located in the above villages of Hambella Wamena coffee farmers.

Ethiopia’s Coffee Origin Myth

The most popular legend of coffee in Ethiopia usually goes something like this:

Kaldi, an Abyssinian goat herder from Kaffa, was herding his goats through a highland area near a monastery. He noticed that they were behaving very strangely that day, and had begun to jump around in an excited manner, bleating loudly, and practically dancing on their hind legs. He found that the source of the excitement was a small shrub (or, in some legends, a small cluster of shrubs) with bright red berries. Curiosity took hold and he tried the berries for himself. Like his goats, Kaldi felt the energizing effects of the coffee cherries. After filling his pockets with the red berries, he rushed home to his wife, and she advised him to go to the nearby monastery in order to share these “heaven sent” berries with the monks. Read more

WHERE WE STAND TODAY

Currently, we have four specialty coffee drying stations in four villages of Hambella Wamena district. We have a total of 800 African sun-drying bamboo beds out of which 200 in each drying station is equipped with materials that are badly required to prepare high-quality dry coffee cherries that will be processed further in order to get Grade1 Natural export standard green coffee beans.
